Abraham Lincoln was the \(16th\) president of the USA. His family was poor and couldn't afford to give him good education, so Abraham was self-educated. Seeing a slave market at a young age made him a fierce abolitionist. Later he outlawed slavery in the US.
He was a hard-working man. After he had served some time in The Black Hawk War as a soldier he qualified as a lawyer in \(1836\) and started law practice in Illinois. He held a seat in the Illinois state legislature for several years. He joined the Republican party and became their candidate for presidency. In \(1860\) he was elected.
Ten of the southern states formed the Confederacy (the Confederate States of America) and the Civil War began. In \(1863\) Lincoln issued the Proclamation that freed all the slaves. That was a huge step to abolishing slavery in the US. The war was won by the Union two years later. In \(1864\) Lincoln was re-elected as the President.
